Mystery Photo #1 Revealed
Mystery Photo #1 is a closeup of the picture below which shows the dumping of “chipped” tree debris on 186th Lane behind the 6410 and 6430 buildings. In the shot taken last month, someone has added a holiday tree to this area which, by its height, seems to constitute dumping prohibited by NYC regulations. A month later, the holiday tree has decayed, but not much else has changed.
This area was the site of earlier chipped tree debris in 2013. At the time, the piles were barely 3 inches tall, apparently with legal NYC limits. Unfortunately, the chips seem to have changed the soil chemistry of the area, damaging several trees.
The real mystery here is why would the Queens Fresh Meadows management allow their subcontractor to do this?
