Mayflowers–The Not So Nice Kind
Fresh Meadows have learned in recent years that some Mayflowers, such as the Mayflower Business Group LLC of Great Neck, NY, are not as nice as the May flowers that grace our community.
In the coming week, the FMTA blog will begin a series of posts about the hotel being built on 186th Street by the Great Neck firm. In those posts, the blog will explore the zoning history of the block, how a federal visa program meant to do good may be doing Fresh Meadows harm, and interaction between municipal government and business.
Using official documents, the blog will reveal details of the project, including details that seemed to have been obscured or stated in a misleading way. In the meantime, this recent picture shows the completed skeleton of the first two stories of the hotel, with the third story, set back from the parking lot, beginning to emerge. Now imagine nine more stories (or read our related February 2014 posts).
As you wait for next week’s posts, you are invited to read “The Green Card Carrot” by Julie Satow that appears in the Real Estate section of tomorrow’s edition (5/17/15) of The New York Times.
