Thanks to our friends at Tenants & Neighbors, here is a list of important things to know now that the rent laws have (temporarily, we trust) expire:
- Your current lease protects you regardless of what action the State takes (or does not take).
- If you are in the middle of a renewal process and want to renew, sign the renewal lease and submit it as soon as possible.
- If you lease expires on or before September 13th, you are entitled to a renewal lease, regardless of what action the State takes.
State legislators and the governor have already spoken on the record that any renewal of the rent laws passed will be retroactive to today (June 16th).
