Membership Drive Update; Our email policies
We again thank all that have responded and continue to accept new members. To date, we have received over 120 new (or returning) membership applications. There is strength in numbers!
To those that submitted your information by mail, our apologies for being slow to respond to you. If you included an email address, you will be receiving an email from us in the coming days. We understand that some of our fellow tenants may not have an email account. To those tenants, we have received your membership form but time constraints of this holiday season preclude us from calling you to acknowledge your membership.
To the few that chose not to disclose their email addresses, please consider sending your email address to facilitate our contact with you. Be assured that your email address will be used only to contact you about FMTA and neighborhood news. Your email address will be seen only by our mailing manager volunteer (who has nearly 40 years experience in IT) and, occasionally, by our volunteer president, who serves as the alternate mailing manager. We store all email address in, and run a mailing list program on, a system that adheres to the (stricter-than-US) European data security and privacy standards. That mailing list program protects you and assures that other tenants will never see your email address, as might be the case if we were using a simple CC list or other simple means.
To those who submitted an application with no address or only a partial address, we have happy to have you as a member, but we need your address in order to verify that you are a member of the Fresh Meadows community. Unfortunately, today there are individuals that seek to foster disruption or harm by gaining entry to even civic-oriented, community-based organizations. Providing your address adds a level of the safety for both the FMTA volunteers and your fellow interested tenants.
